"Do you like going for long walks?"Being asked this question by a fellow pilgrim, or peregrino, a few days into my month-long journey walking 500 miles across northern Spain seems ridiculous. And then I realize it's a brilliant question. It seeks to answer why someone would embark on such a challenge.Honestly, I don't like walking. So why would I - or anyone - take a month off from work and life leaving their family behind to walk the Camino de Santiago? The physical, mental, and spiritual journey that is the Camino is profoundly personal yet universally transformational. The greatest challenge is staying transformed when you get off the trail and go back home to your normal life.Walk with Blaine Rada as he shares his daily diary filled with insights, humor, and his quest for meaning. And chocolate milk. From Sore Soles to a Soaring Soul is the book he never intended to write. And is so glad he did. Autorenporträt
Blaine Rada's travels and adventures started early. Between kindergarten and high school, he lived in eight places, attended eight different schools, and spent three years at a "free school," which encouraged independent learning, where Blaine focused on art, math, and playing in the mud.Smart enough to be a member of Mensa, Blaine still will do things that don't make any sense, like the time he chained his bike to a concrete post, not realizing it could simply be lifted off because the post was only four feet tall.Blaine was named "America's Greatest Thinker" in 2005 by winning The Great American Think-Off, a national philosophy competition. He won the event arguing that cooperation benefits society more than competition. Kind of ironic. [More information on this event can be found at www.thinkoff.org.]As a teenager, Blaine discovered his life mission was to have a positive impact on as many people as possible. Even then, he knew it would involve professional speaking. As a member of the National Speakers Association, Blaine has achieved the highest earned designation, the CSP, or Certified Speaking Professional.Blaine has spent over 30 years in the financial services industry and travels the country helping companies grow their business and stand out from the competition.Blaine would love to hear from you!
