Philip Gaines is Professor of English at Montana State University. He holds an MA in Linguistics and a PhD in English Language Studies, with a concentration in Language and Law, both from the University of Washington. His research interests lie in the analysis of the discourse and rhetorical structure of the language of lawyers and police interviewers.
