Muriel Jane Butler Sterling has owned and operated a successful family childcare service in Oakland, California, for nearly half a century. While raising her two children, Muriel served as president of the East Oakland Family Child Association. Additionally, Muriel was a regional representative for the Northern Family Childcare Association and later chairperson of the Berkeley/Albany Regional Family Childcare Network. She also served as vice president of the Berkeley/Albany Family Childcare Association.Muriel's passion for childcare was displayed at conferences in her specialized roles as conference coordinator and arts and crafts workshop leader. Muriel`s ascent to the pinnacle of childcare began when she completed courses at Merritt, Laney, Alameda, and Ohlone California Colleges. During this time, Muriel`s model penmanship was put on display, honored, and placed in the Alameda College Library archives. Muriel has written and directed several comedies for the Berkeley Repertory Theatre in Berkeley, California, the Allen Temple Baptist Church in Oakland, California and a fundraiser for the Dr Herbert Guice Christian Academy, Oakland, CA.
