The term Furcation involvement refers to commonly occurring conditions in which bifurcations and trifurcations of multi rooted teeth are invaded by the disease process. The treatment of furcation defects presents one of the greatest challenges in periodontal therapy. Various non-surgical as well as surgical therapies are provided to treat a furcation lesion with goals to arrest the disease process (inflammation and infection), as well as to restore the lost tissues and ultimately maintaining the teeth in health and function with appropriate esthetics. Therapies range from thorough debridement to regenerative procedures.
