The purpose of this paper is to generate ideas and thought about promoting U.S. military officers to rank of the five star general or admiral. It must be noted that the promotion of an officer to the five star rank is, in today's world, more of a political statement than one of military necessity. The U.S. government is operating in its world wide interests and the Global War on Terrorism effectively by many standards. The idea of promoting an officer to the rank of five star general or admiral is one future trend or claim that could increase the U.S. military presence and publicly promote U.S. military affairs through out the world. More specifically it might provide greater status to the US military culture and the public support that is required to continue a controversial war on terrorism which at this time does not have a specific end state. This paper will examine some of the military leadership aspects that might assist the US winning the Global War on Terrorism.
