Subrat Sahoo is a member of the Indian Administrative Service (IAS), of the 1992 Batch, and belongs to the Chhattisgarh cadre.Born in 1968 in Odisha, he is a product of Ravenshaw College, Cuttack, and Delhi University, Delhi. He has had an illustrious academic career, which include All-India 3rd rank in Matriculation in ICSE Board, 2nd rank in state of Odisha in Higher Secondary, 2nd rank with Distinction in Graduation in Political Science, and 1st rank in Post Graduation in Political Science from Delhi University winning the prestigious Karan Singh Gold Medal. A merit scholarship and UGC Junior Research Fellowship holder, he has been the Literary Champion twice, and also holder of the Madhusudan Das Memorial Gold Medal twice for the best essayist in the state of Odisha? a record in itself. He is the winner of numerous debates and quiz competitions including the state championship, and also has been a quiz master himself.His passion is writing on science fiction, and on popular science, and quizzing and debating. His first story appeared in the Science Today magazine in September 1987 when he had just completed his schooling in Class 12. He has authored nMahabharata O Vigyani (Mahabharata and Science) and nRamayan O Vigyani (Ramayana and Science) in Oriya, which are aimed at popularisation of science. His nAmey O Ganatantrai (We and Democracy), in Oriya, was selected as the text book by the Odisha government for schools.He has written articles, short stories and poems, quite a few of which have seen print in various magazines and fora. He has interest in debating and philately also, having won awards in these fields too. He has won citations and awards for popularization of science in Odisha. He also conducts seminars and orientation programmes on science, scientific awareness and popularisation of science. He has been instrumental in preparing a video based on the National Anthem for the promotion of culturally important places in the state.He is married and has two children.
