Piezoelectric actuators are used in a wide variety of nanopositioning platforms and other industrial applications. The nonlinear hysteresis behavior prevents the platforms from providing the desired highly precise motion in open loop operation. The PID and fuzzy control approaches are simulated using Matlab/Simulink to control a single axis nanopositioner. The experimental work is implemented using LabVIEW software in two configurations: DAQ to verify the developed algorithms and I/O FPGA card to emulate the embedded control environment. Simulation and experimental results affirmed that the developed fuzzy controller has a superior performance rather than PID controller.
