The number of single phase and three-phase non-linear loads has increased dramatically in modern electrical distribution systems. These non-linear loads use solid-state power conversion and draw non-sinusoidal currents from the AC mains, resulting in harmonics, reactive power strain, and excessive neutral currents, all of which pollute power systems. They often reduce productivity and cause interference with surrounding communication networks and equipment. To address these issues, active power filters have been created. Current-controlled PWM converters with shunt active filters are seen as a viable solution. In this book a fuzzy logic controlled shunt active power filter for harmonics and reactive power compensation of a nonlinear cycloconverter load has been discussed. The efficiency of the controller is investigated under various conditions and with various device parameters. Fuzzy controllers have the advantage of not requiring a precise mathematical model. they can work with imprecise inputs, can handle non-linearity, load disturbances etc.
