This book is the first international analysis devoted to Gabriele Münter's work. Well over 100 of the artist's most important works are illustrated, including sveral from private collections that have never been published before. The book focuses on the years of Münter's greatest and most important achievements, 1903-1920, as she collaborated with Kandinsky, participated as a key member of the Blue Rider group, and then resided in Scandinavia during World War I. A fascinating chapter employs Münter's drawings and photographs to illustrate her trip to America at the turn of the century. The book is published to coincide with an exhibition which will tour America from December 1997 to November 1998.
