Michael Gielen, geboren 1927 in Dresden. Emigration 1940 nach Argentinien, 1950 - 60 Kapellmeister an der Wiener Staatsoper. Chefdirigate in Stockholm (1960 - 65), Brüssel (1969 - 73) und Amsterdam (1973 - 75). Von 1977 - 87 GMD und Operndirektor der Oper Frankfurt am Main, daneben zahlreiche andere Verpflichtungen. 1987 - 95 Professor für "Dirigieren" am "Mozarteum", Salzburg. Seit 1999 ständiger Gastdirigent in Berlin.
