There has always been changes in the world that affected human life. The most significant changes that affected human life were the political changes that started in Europe in the seventeenth century. These political changes culminated in the introduction of democracy in Europe which gradually spread to more continents. Political change brought about stability and freedom of speech encouraging people to participate actively in the affairs of their communities and countries. This development lead to social change as people were now free to express their opinions and to participate in decision making processes. Political freedom also brought about economic progress in the sense that people were given the opportunity to become skilled so that they could contribute to the development of their countries. However there has always been the problem of illiteracy because not all got the opportunity to go to school. Therefore the need for adult education has to be taken into consideration to give citizens in the country an equal chance to reach their potential.
