Nato il 15 settembre 1947, ha conseguito il B.Sc. (Hons) (1965), il M.Sc. (1967) in Fisica e il Ph.D. (Tech.) (1981).Ha servito l'A.B.N.Seal College, Coochbehar, l'Hooghly Mohsin College, il Krishnagar College e il Presidency College, Kolkata.È andato in pensione nel settembre 2007.È autore di due libri di testo, di oltre 200 articoli di divulgazione scientifica e di due libri di divulgazione scientifica.È un attivista scientifico.
