The constituency currently elects 4 deputies (Teachtaí Dála, commonly known in English as TDs). The method of election is the Single transferable vote form of proportional representation (PR-STV). The constituency spans the entire area of the eastern half of County Galway, taking in the towns of Ballinasloe, Tuam, Portumna and Loughrea and many other areas.
