The Gangetic catfish, Clupisoma garua is commercially important inland water teleostean fish which is one of the most dominate species of catfish fishery in Ganga River system. The fish is largest species among the five species known to occur in India, and is considered to be a good table fish throughout the India and neighbouring countries, which fetches a good price in the market. The catch sold in the market comes from the natural stocks. Despite its abundance, consumer demand and palatability, very little information is available on the biology of this fish. The present situation demands the application of scientific method for its culture, but, it is inconceivable without a good knowledge of its biology. This book covers the findings and reviews of various aspects of fishery and biology such as food and feeding habits, reproduction and length and weight relationship of the fish. The book will be useful for those who are working in the field of aquaculture. Each chapter of the book focuses on the basic and current status of the knowledge based on the concerned topics. Hopefully the book will be beneficial not only for academicians but also for industrialists and professionals.
