Laurie is the daughter and granddaughter of gardening mavens. Her grandmother was a flower show judge and instructor in the art of Japanese Ikebana flower arranging. Her mother has also been a flower show judge, and president of various gardening clubs. Although Laurie originally dismissed gardening as hot, sweaty, dirty work, she has seen the light and now is a self-confessed gardening fanatic. She and her family live in the San Francisco Bay Area.
