Why won't anyone listen to me? That's what Robbie Belmont wants to know. He's been a star pitcher all through grade school. But Coach Franklin won't let him use his best pitch, a slider. Without it, Robbie knows he won't make Riverton High School's varsity as a pitcher. How will he impress pretty Cynthia Wu then? But Robbie does make varsity-as a catcher! That's not what he wanted at all. But he'll have to decide: catch or be off the team. And if he catches, Robbie will be competing with the one guy who hates his guts, Eddie Mosely. Gary Carter has hit over 300 home runs in the major leagues. This includes nine seasons when he hit at least twenty. Four times, he has totaled 100 or more runs batted in for a season, topping the National League with 106 in 1984. Gary has also won three Gold Gloves for catching, and in 1986 he was rated the best clutch hitter in the major leagues. That same year, he helped lead the New York Mets to victory in the World Series. In 2003, he was inducted into the National Baseball Hall of Fame in Cooperstown, N.Y., being the first player to be inducted into the Hall of Fame as a Montreal Expo.
