Gemma Frisius, or Jemme Reinerszoon Frisius, or Jemme Reinersz, was a physician, mathematician, cartographer, a somewhat confused philosopher and instrument maker. He created important globes, improved the mathematical instruments of his day and applied mathematics in new ways to surveying and navigation.
