SIV S. GUSTAFSSON is Professor of Economics at the University of Amsterdam. She is a fellow of the Tinbergen Institute and is the 1999 President of the European Society of Population Economics. DANIELE MEULDERS is Professor of Economics and head of the research team of Labour Economics in the department of applied economics of the Free University of Brussels. She is a member of the executive committee of the Applied Econometrics Association.
