Gender is an essential factor in determining the social and relational aspects of individuals in any society in inheritance. In most African communities, the ownership and accessibility to land is governed by the community's social structure, philosophy and culture. In the Abagusii community, men retain a virtual monopoly of all power and wealth as relates to land. This book critically examines beliefs, norms, values and philosophies governing land inheritance. It examines the importance of land and appraises the traditional epistemological, ethical and socio- economic bases of gender discrimination, concerning inheritance among the Abagusii. The book provides a baseline information to other researchers carrying out studies on gender aspects of resource utilization. It also provides some information and guidance that is currently needed to solve the problem of gender inequality. It is vital in providing an inventory not only to the government agencies but also for the Non-Governmental Organizations (NGO's). This book helps the reader to develop a rational attitude towards life by avoiding unjustified world-views.
