This book aims to analyze and deconstruct the forms of patriarchy embedded in Turkish society and politics. In this regard, it analyses how patriarchy functions and reconstructs itself by suppressing women and non heterosexuals. It also reveals its effects on women and non-heterosexuals through some societal and political issues such as military interventions, the perceptions on transsexuals by the state and society, juvenile penal justice, and policies on environment.

Rasim Özgür Dönmez is an associate professor in international relations of Abant Izzet Baysal University- Turkey. His current research topics are identity politics, political violence, civil society, and Turkish politics. He is an editor of political science journal Alternatif Politika/Alternative Politics: http://www.alternatifpolitika.com/ Fazilet Ahu Özmen attained her PhD in Strasbourg University in October 2009. Her doctorate thesis is on Contemporary Alevi Youth and its social and political development of identity, and analyzes the question 'Is Alevi Youth a pluralistic, traditional and postmodernist youth?' She is an assistant professor at the French Political Science and International Relations Department of Yeditepe University in Istanbul and also gives lectures in various universities in Istanbul.
