Decision makers, mainly the health sector are constantly faced with the problem of providing the best health care service for communities, regions and provinces all around the world yet they sit on very tight budget constraints. The number of ambulances to purchase and where to locate them which is one of the difficult decisions they have to deal with can be very daunting. The ambulance location problem has been under study for a long time and a lot of approaches have been employed in solving this very sensitive location problem. This book takes a look at the application of an interesting area of optimization, Genetic Algorithms, to the location of the ambulance in Ghana's second largest city. GA's prove to be efficient in handling such class of optimization problems that have been around for a long time. The area is relatively new but it can be efficient in dealing with this situation.
