A research program ¿Identification of Fertility Restorer and Sterility Maintainerfor Cytoplasmic Genetic Male Sterile (CGMS) lines in wheat ( Triticum aestivum L.)¿ was conducted during rabi season of 2010-11 and 2011-12 at experimental farm area of Department of Genetics and Plant Breeding, CCSHAU, Hisar. Three CGMS lines, viz., WH 416A, Atilla A and PBW 445A carrying a sterile cytoplasmic background of T. timopheevi were used as female parents to produce 45 F1 hybrids by crossing with fifteen elite wheat cultivars. These hybrids were grown under timely sown normal conditions in the rabi season of 2011-12 and observations were recorded for reproductive traits influencing the hybrid seed production. Based on these data two partial restorer lines and 13 maintainer lines for one of the CMS line WH 416A were identified. The pollen parents were simultaneously evaluated for floral traits influencing the outcrossing viz. glumes opening angle (degree), anther size (mm2), anther colour, pollen viability (%), filament length (mm) and anther extrusion (%). Based on these traits, WH147 was identified as the best pollen parent suitable for outcrossing in relation to hybrid seed production.
