An investigation was carried out at ZARS, VC Farm, Mandya, during 2011-2012 to study the variability parameters, Character association and Path analysis in respect of grain yield and its seven component traits as well as inheritance of BPH resistance in F2 populations of ¿IR 64 × BPHR-1¿ and ¿Jaya × BPHR-1¿ crosses of rice. The distribution pattern of two F2 populations indicated large number of genes with dominance based complementary interaction in the inheritance of total tillers per plant, days to panicle emergence, productive tillers per plant, grains per panicle and grain yield but duplicate interaction for panicle length in both the crosses. GCV and PCV values were relatively higher with high heritability coupled with high genetic advance for total tillers per plant, productive tillers per plant, grains per panicle and grain yield per plant in both the crosses indicating additive gene action in their genetic control. Grain yield per plant exhibited significant positive correlation with total tillers, productive tillers, panicle length and grains per panicle.
