However, it is worth mentioning that most literature on gentrification are focused on the developed countries. In Africa, there exist limited literature on gentrification and it is fair to indicate that generally, a comprehensive study on gentrification and urbanization is rare in Ghana. This book therefore provides the relevance of gentrification in the urbanization process in Ghana using Wa as a case study. Wa, is the capital city of the Upper West Region and one of the fast urbanizing cities in Ghana. The analysis in this book therefore reveals the relevance of gentrification in the forms, causes and effects of the changes that are unfolding in the Central Business District of Wa. This book provides urban studies students as well as professionals insights intothe dynamics and relevance of gentrification in the urbanization process in Ghana with specific reference to Wa.

Samuel Twumasi Amoah is a Senior Research Assistant in the University for Development Studies at the Department of Environment and Resource Studies. He holds BA (Hons) degree in Integrated Development Studies from the University for Development Studies, Ghana and a Master of Science (MSc) degree in Human Geography from Lund University, Sweden.
