Geoffrey William Algernon Howard JP (12 February 1877 20 June 1935) was a British Liberal politician. The son of the 9th Earl of Carlisle and Rosalind Frances Stanley, he was educated at Trinity College, Cambridge, where he graduated with a Master of Arts. He was also joint Secretary of Cambridge University Liberal Club from 1897 to 1899. Howard was Member of Parliament (MP) for Eskdale from 1906 to 1910, for Westbury from 1911 to 1918 and for Luton from 1923 to 1924. In 1909, he was Private Secretary to the Parliamentary Secretary of the Board of Trade and in 1910 to the Prime Minister. Between 1911 and 1915, he was Vice-Chamberlain of the Household and between 1915 and 1916 Junior Lord of the Treasury. Howard was further a Justice of Peace and served as Temporary Lieutenant to the Royal Naval Division in 1914. Later he was also Lord Lieutenant of the North Riding of Yorkshire. On 15 May 1915, he married Hon. Ethel Christian Methuen, daughter of the Field Marshal and 3rd Baron Methuen. They had five children, two daughters and three sons, including the life peer George Howard.
