George Herdman Benson (26 June 1893 19 December 1974) was an English footballer.Benson played for Accrington Stanley, Blackburn Rovers, Stalybridge Celtic and Queen's Park Rangers before joining Port Vale on a month's trial in February 1924. He appeared in a 2 0 home defeat to Bristol City on 9 February, failing to impress he was not kept on and instead joined Chorley. Accrington Stanley was an English football club based in Accrington, Lancashire. Established in 1891, the club played in the Football League between 1921 and 1962, when the club became only the second ever to resign from the League mid-season. The club went into liquidation in 1966. They played at Peel Park.
