He has served as assistant professor of American Indian Studies at Montana State University. He also taught college in Great Falls, Montana. He participated in the Native American occupation of Alcatraz Island. He wrote "An American Indian Perspective". He was the first curator at the Plains Indian Museum (1979) at the Buffalo Bill Historical Center, Cody, Wyoming. He later worked for the National Museum of the American Indian, and returned after the new building was built in Washington, D.C. He is retired and lives in Montana.
