The Editor: Manfred Jurgensen was born in 1940. Professor of German (Personal Chair) at the University of Queensland. Author of a history of German-Australian literature, Eagle & Emu (1992), Editor of Australia's leading journal of multicultural literature, Outrider. Among his many publications are book studies on Goethe's Aesthetics, Max Frisch, German Literary Theory, Günter Grass, Narrative Forms of the Fictional I, Thomas Bernhard, Ingeborg Bachmann, German Women Writers, Literary Pornography and The Aesthetics of Multiculturalism. In addition, Professor Jurgensen has published various anthologies of Australian writing. His own most recent literary publications are a history of Australia in verse, Shadows of Utopia (1994), an the novel The Trembling Bridge (1995).
