The time is 1991 and the place is the City of Cap-Haitien, Republic of Haiti. The beautiful Caribbean nation is in turmoil since President Aristide was ousted by his rival, Haitian Armed Forces General Raoul Sedras. The Haitian people are brutalized by the paramilitary Tonton Macoute and wonder if America or the United Nations will intervene. Jean-Marc Maurice is a tall, handsome young Haitian man who's trying to figure out who and what matters to him as the world around him is literally burning. He recently graduated from the prestigious College Notre Dame Du Perpetuel Secours, an all-male Catholic school, and his parents, schoolteachers Ronald and Astrid Maurice couldn't be prouder. Jean-Marc should be selecting a university and preparing for a career. The beleaguered young man has other concerns, though. Jean-Marc always felt attracted to tall, curvy and big-bottomed Caribbean beauties like the feisty Therese Beaudoin, but he also has feelings for his macho buddy Pierre Jacques...who chases hot women left and right. Jean-Marc's barber Maitre Numa is the only person he can confide in. He seriously wishes he could drink a magic potion and make his bisexual feelings go away. Such a magic potion does not exist. In Haitian society, men who deviate from the masculine, heterosexual norm are called Masisi and treated worse than dirt. Discretion is the name of the game as Jean-Marc slowly learns to embrace his identity as a bisexual Haitian man.
