This book positively distinguishes from the
wide-spread "Doing
business in..."-guidelines by its remarkable
interdisciplinary
approach: Based on his expertise in the field of
micro economics,
management and law the author provides a really
comprehensive
though practical guideline for all those concerned
with human
resource management in Ghana.
Combining quantitative and qualitative research
methods the author
reveals factors hampering competitiveness of Ghanaian
firms and
presents a solution to at least some of their
problems: Performance-
based payment may help to increase the efficiency of
companies
where implemented properly. Based on a large number
of expert
interviews with managers, workers representatives
and researchers
the book gives an overview of the systems appropriate
in the
Ghanaian setting and provides recommendations for their
implementation. In particular industrial relations
and labour law
were taken into account: The book includes a detailed
and worth
reading review of all provisions in Ghana s Labour
Act related to
payment, collective bargaining and strikes.
