The environment, which serves as a source of livelihood to biodiversity, sink for waste and habitat for both living and non living things, have received critical attention from the government and policy and development partners in recent times. Such actions have been noted to include poor construction of roads and settlement, deforestation, silting of river beds and pollution of the environment with harmful gases. This scenario, including others, necessitated a review of environment issues presented in the national dailies and the weekly newspapers of Ghana for the period, January-December 1997.
