Gingival enlargement may be associated with the administration of three different classes of drugs, all producing a similar response. The most common is chronic inflammatory gingival enlargement, where the gingiva presents clinically as soft and discoloured. Many systemic diseases can develop oral manifestations that may include gingival enlargement. Some t are related to conditions and others that are related to disease. Physical irritation of the gingiva by improper restorative and orthodontic appliances may also induce gingival enlargement. The gingival enlargement can be controlled successfully, even under the continuous administration of calcium antagonists, by meticulous professional and individual oral hygiene. Gingival enlargement occurs primarily on the labial gingival mucosa and in between the teeth, interdental papillae area. GO is more pronounced on the labial aspect of the maxillary gingiva and in the interdental papillae.
