Gingival retraction is the process of reversible mechanical displacement or surgical removal (troughing) of the inner surface of the gingival sulcus to let the impression material cover or the intraoral scanner scan the prepared and unprepared part of the tooth. Laser devices are a contemporary, but insufficiently researched alternative to the classic methods. This book aims at comparing the advantages and disadvantages of the classic and surgical retraction methods, and helping the dentist choose the most appropriate one according to the clinical case.
