The main goal of present study was formulation and in vitro evaluation extended release tablets of glipizide.In this tablets glipizide was used as drug which is effective in management of diabetes for period of 12 hrs,which will increase patient compliance and be economical to the patient.Extended release tablets were prepared using polymer HPMC K4M, HPMC K15M, HPMC K100M with suitable excipients.Tablets showed initial release to initiate pharmacological action and slowing releasing drug to maintain therapeutic action.Prepared tablets were evaluated for thickness, hardness, friability, uniformity of weight, swelling property, drug content uniformity and dissolution study.Disintegration time and drug release were taken as basis to optimise the tablets.Accelerated stability study for optimised batch was also performed.
