This book is divided into a theoretical component and an empirical research component. The first component analyses the impact of globalisation processes, especially in the area of education. It argues that in order to work towards building a more cohesive and global society, schools should have intercultural education as one of their main guidelines. João Maia ist Doktorand für zeitgenössische Studien an der Universität von Coimbra. Er hat mit dieser Arbeit einen Master-Abschluss in Erziehungswissenschaften im Bereich Bildung und soziale Entwicklung an der Fakultät für Psychologie und Erziehungswissenschaften der Universität Coimbra erworben. Als Forscher gehört er dem CIJVS und dem CTEC-UFP an.
