Autorenporträt
Geoff has a passion for pubs and beer. Now aged 55 he first got a taste for good beer in the mid 1970's. Fed up with the proliferation of heavy marketed keg beer he got on his push bike to seek out traditional beer that was still available in Gloucestershire. Eschewing the likes of Whitbread Tankard and Trophy he travelled far and wide to discover real ales from the Donnington Brewery near Stow on the Wold and flavoursome beers such as Wadworth 6X. Geoff joined the Campaign for Real Ale (CAMRA) in 1979 to further his quest for the perfect pint, a long time objective that he is still happily pursuing. A chance discovery of two old books in Gloucester library documenting all licensed premises that once existed in Gloucestershire in 1891 and 1903 inspired Geoff to discover the location and history of thousands of bygone county pubs. The meticulous study has been posted on his highly acclaimed website - www.gloucestershirepubs.co.uk. On the strength of the website Geoff co-wrote his first book 'Gloucestershire Pubs and Breweries' with fellow beer enthusiast Tim Edgell in 2005. Geoff is also the editor of the Gloucestershire Branch of CAMRA's quarterly newsletter 'the tippler'.
