Among the notable residents of old Gloversville is Samuel Goldfish, an immigrant who came to work in the leather industry before moving west; he changed his name to Goldwyn and formed Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer (MGM) Studios. Another former resident, Lucius Littauer, graduated from Harvard, was elected to Congress, and later served as an advisor to Teddy Roosevelt.
