This book discusses synthesis of Gm-C filter for modern radio frequency systems. Analogue filters are an inevitable part of the chain of signal processing in modern radio and telecommunication systems. Among the technologies implemented for these purposes are the so-called Gm-C filters which are built of operational transconductance amplifiers and capacitors. This technology allows for integration of the filter into a CMOS system-on-chip so making it very attractive for application in low-power (battery operated) devices. The objective of this book is to achieve three goals: (1) to fully describe the circuit synthesis procedures for parallel, cascade, and a realization based on LC prototypes; (2) to make a thorough evaluation of the advantages and disadvantages of these methods and to recommend the "preferable" one; and (3) to create an extensive table of element values of cascaded Gm-C filters realizing the best-known low-pass filter functions. The book will influence the design community to embrace this technology even for non-communication applications.
Prof. Litovski was born in 1947 in Rakita, South Macedonia, Greece. He graduated primary and secondary school in Bitola, Republic of Macedonia. He graduated at the Faculty of Electronic Engineering in Ni in1970, he got his MSc in 1974, and his PhD in 1977. He was appointed a teaching assistant at the Faculty of Electronic Engineering on 22nd of March, 1970 and got appointed full professor at the same faculty in 1987. He was elected Visiting professor (Honoris causa) at the University of Southampton on November 1999. In the period 2015-17 he was with the University of Bath as a researcher. From 1987 until 1990 he was serving as a consultant to the CEO of Ei Ni. For 12 years he was serving as the Head of the Chair of Electronics at the Faculty of Electronic engineering in Ni. He was teaching at the Electro-technical faculties in Pritina, Skopje, Sarajevo, Banja Luka and Novi Sad. The teaching subject was related to analogue electronics, electronic circuit design and artificial intelligence. He received several awards granted by the Town of Ni for excellent results as a student, from the Faculty of Electronic Engineering (Charter in 1980, Charter in 1985, and a Special recognition in 1995) and the University of Ni (Plaque 1985). He received a "Recognition" from the Electro-technical faculty of Banja Luka for exceptional contribution to the development of the Faculty, a "Great Charter" from the Electrotechnical Faculty of Eastern Sarajevo "as a recognition of perennial conscientious work filled with dedication and responsibility as well as for contribution to the development of the faculty"; Charter from the Journal "Tehnika" (1985) on the occasion of the 40th anniversary of the publication of the magazine; a "Great Charter" from ETRAN "for outstanding contribution to the development of scientific and professional thought in the field of Electronics". He got the ETRAN Award for best paper in the Section Electronics in 1986; the "Tesla Award" (given by the independent Tesla foundation) "for top engineering technical and technological achievements" in 1994, and (in July 1998) the "Savastano Award" given by the European Federation of Simulation Societies for best paper published in the period from 1995 to 1997. In 2015 he got the "Life Achievements Award " by the Regional Chamber of Commerce (RPK) Ni. Prof. Litovski published: monographs 6, articles in international journals 90, articles in domestic journals 32, articles at international conferences 167, articles at home conferences 160, teaching publications and textbooks 25, professional reports and studies 42. He had 135 co-authors, of whom 25 from abroad. The average number of authors per work was about 2.7. When self-citation and citations by the aforementioned co-authors are excluded, the publications by Prof. Litovski were cited 517 times. According to Scholar Google his hindex is 17 and i10-index is 45. Prof. Litovski is the founder and first editor of the journal Facta Universitatis, Series Electronics and Energetics; of the LEDA research laboratory recognized by the European Commission (EC) as one out of 17 centers of excellence in the field of ICT research and development and of the "Small Systems Simulation Symposium ". His research interest is electronic and electrical design and design for sustainability. He was leading the design of the first custom commercial digital, and a research oriented analogue CMOS circuit in Serbia. He was leading 8 strategic projects financed by the Serbian and Yugoslav Governments and the JNA. In addition, he was participating in several European projects funded by the governments of Germany, Austria, UK, Spain, and the EC as well as the Black See Organization of Economic Cooperation (BSEC). Prof. Litovski was serving as: Representative of Serbia in the "Joint Undertaking ARTEMIS with the EC Commission"; Reviewer of FP7 projects; President of the ICT Board of RPK; President of the Board of the Ni cluster of Advanced Technologies (NICAT); Member of steering committees of TELSIKS, MIEL, INDEL, SSSS, NEUREL; and Reviewer for journals: IEEE CAS, IEEE TCAD II, Microelectronics Reliability, IEE Proceedings, IEEE CAD of ICAS, Int. J. of Electronics, J. of Circuits Systems and Computers, Int. J. of Information technology, Serbian J. of Electrical Engineering, COMPEL, and IEEE Access; and conferences: IEEE ISCAS, ETRAN, IASTED, TELFOR , TELSIKS, SSSS, AFRICON, ICT Innovation, ICMRA, PEMC.
