Genetically modified (GM) food crop means a food crop that consists of or includes a plant that is genetically modified organs or is derived or produced from genetically modified organisms or has inherited from other plants particular traits that occurred in those other plants because of gene technology. The compounds stored within plant tissues that are toxic to insects by a range of mechanism. It covers metabolites that are both constitutively produced and those are induced in response to defense signaling including insect attack. Also induced are volatile compounds released from plants that act as signals (semiochemicals) detected by herbivores insects and those that interact with insects at higher trophic levels.
