The GM A platform was downsized for 1978 but the Caballero and its El Camino twin used the Chevrolet Malibu station wagon''s longer-wheelbase chassis. In 1982, the rear-wheel-drive vehicle became known as the G platform as the A platform switched to front-wheel drive.
