Kristine Madera has traveled through books since she learned how to read. As a child, she loved to pull out a volume of the World Book Encyclopedia, find an exotic locale and imagine what life would be like if she lived there. She had an ongoing fantasy about trekking with a caravan of Bedouin nomads, but the closest she got was a camel ride at the edge of the Sahara with a guide who claimed to be Bedouin. Writing novels indulges her love of the transformational power of travel. Plunging herself (or her characters) in the unfamiliar illuminates hidden patterns and awakens an appreciation and understanding of the world that is almost impossible when surround by the familiar. Her travels include an eight-month trek through India, Sri Lanka & Nepal, student exchanges in Australia and England, teaching English in Japan, and backpacking in the days before cell phones and the Internet to China, Russia, Latvia, Estonia, Poland and Western Europe. She was also a Peace Corps Volunteer in Papua New Guinea and has traveled backpack-style in the South Pacific. Kristine is currently a speaker, bestselling author and Authenticity Consultant & Trainer.
