Cancer is an extremely dreadful disease and any practical solution in combating this disease is of paramount importance to public health. Cancer patients have been burdened by drug induced toxic side effects, and none turned to seek help from the complementary and alternative medicine hoping for a better cure. Research on Platinum based drugs and Non Platinum based drugs is a Multi-million Dollar Industry in USA and there is every need to produce safe drugs for the cure of this monstrous disease. The anticancer activity of the platinum-based complex, cisplatin was discovered in the 1960s. The semicarbazones and thiosemicarbazones usually behave as chelating ligands containing donor imines groups which react with transition metal vacant d-orbital giving complexes. These are multifunctional ligands in both neutral and anionic forms. The complexes can exhibit bioactivities which are not shown by the free ligands. The main interest to prepare and elucidate the structure transition metal complexes of these ligands is due to their pharmacological activities. The book describes the importance of Gold and Platinum complexes with a variety of Anticancer Drug derivatives.
