Gold pyrometallurgy is a metallurgical process that uses heat to extract gold from gold-bearing ores. This process involves the application of high temperatures to melt and separate the gold from other minerals present in the ore.The gold pyrometallurgy process begins with the grinding and crushing of the gold-bearing ore to liberate the gold and then cyanidation. A smelting process is then applied in a furnace at elevated temperatures, usually between 1000°C and 1200°C, to melt the gold and other minerals.During smelting, the gold is separated from the gangue minerals and concentrated in the form of an alloy called doré.Gold pyrometallurgy is an efficient and cost-effective process for large-scale gold extraction. However, it requires careful control of process conditions to avoid gold loss and minimize environmental impacts. This text covers the basic fundamentals of the fusion process and the phases present in the process as well as the most important characteristics to obtain a good gold.
