Michael Grant hatte eine bewegte Kindheit. Die Familie zog aufgrund der Arbeit des Vaters beim US-Militär oft um - Grant besuchte zehn Schulen in fünf amerikanischen Staaten und verbrachte auch einige Zeit in Frankreich.
