Autorenporträt
Walter Nigg, 1903 in Luzern geboren, studierte in Göttingen, Leipzig und Zürich Philosophie und Theologie. 1940 wurde er Professor für Kirchengeschichte in Zürich und wirkte nebenbei als protestantischer Pfarrer im zürcherischen Dänikon, wo er 1988 starb. Den größten Teil seiner schriftstellerischen Arbeit widmete er der Heiligenschilderung. Neben Heiligen, Ordensgründern, Propheten und Dystikern handeln seine Bücher auch von Künstlern und Dichtern und nicht zuletzt von Ketzern, die er als 'verunglückte Heilige' verstand und deren Wert als Korrektiv zur Kirche er unterstrich. Denn der Mensch, der die Nähe Gottes sucht, steht im Mittelpunkt seiner Bücher, die sich durch ihre packende und zugleich poetische Sprache, ihre Wissenschaftlichkeit und ökumenische Grundhaltung auszeichnen.
