The aim of this study is to determine the local public governance mechanisms that impact on the performance of decentralized local authorities, from the perspective of budget management efficiency. To achieve this, primary data are collected from 40 communes in West Cameroon, and secondary data are drawn from the database of the national supervisory committee of the performance window of the national participatory development program between 2016 and 2019. The results obtained from the feasible generalized least squares research model lead to the conclusion that traditional governance mechanisms have very little, if any, negative influence on performance in the local public sector. In addition, these results suggest to the various colleges of local voters, taking into account the initial training of the mayor, the number and quality of resident deputy mayors, in order to create structural and functional changes to positively impact financial management performance in municipalities.
