The life and writings of Steven Eli Esquibel, whose Indian name translates into Hummingbird, represents the traditional American-Indian path of spirituality and life, which he has pursued as his avocation and vocation for the last 20 years. The author was born in San Diego, California, and raised in a small agricultural community and one of the seventeen Indian reservations in San Diego County. He moved to Arizona ten years ago. In 1981, he immersed himself in traditional American-Indian activities and was appointed speaker for the American-Indian Elders Society of San Diego County in 1982. The group is dedicated to preserving traditional beliefs and protecting sacred sites. At the age of 32, he became the youngest person in their history to hold the position of speaker for the esteemed society. Mr. Esquibel-Hummingbird has dedicated his life to the path of traditional understanding and utilizes his academic and cultural background to further that path of life through his writings. In 1998, he received the Famous Poet Award by the Famous Poets Society of America. La vida y escrituras de Steven Eli Esquibel, cuyo nombre indio se traduce como Colibrí, representa el camino tradicional del Indio Americano de espiritualidad y vida, el cual ha perseguido como pasatiempo y vocación estos últimos 20 años. El autor nació en San Diego, California, y se crio en una pequeña comunidad agricultora, una de diecisiete reservaciones indias en el condado de San Diego. Se mudo a Arizona hace 10 años. En 1981 se inmerso en las actividades tradicionales de Amerindios y fue nombrado Orador de la Sociedad de Elder Amerindios del condado de San Diego en 1982. El grupo se dedica a preservar las creencias tradicionales y la protección de los sitios sagrados.
