Ed Lehner, a retired professor of graphic design from Iowa State University, has journaled and written poetry for over forty years and, more recently, novels, such as The Awakening of Russell Henderson, and a short story collection,Grandpa's Horse. San Juan Sunrise actually came unexpectedly when he was recovering from pneumonia in 2015. The story began as a poem, then morphed into a short story and just kept growing and growing until, to his surprise, he brought it to closure. He lives with his wife, Julie, and Emma the cat, in Durango, Colorado.
