T. U. I. Peiris a obtenu le premier diplôme, B.Sc. Honors en gestion financière avec une deuxième classe supérieure de l'Université Sabaragamuwa du Sri Lanka en 2006. Il a obtenu une maîtrise en mathématiques financières à l'université de Moratuwa et un doctorat en économie à l'université Putra Malaysia.
