The first edition of Atlas of Surgical Anatomy for General Surgeons, published in 1985, was well regarded and strong interest in it has continued. During the time it has been out of print an overwhelming number of inquiries from people wanting to acquire a copy have been received. So, obviously there was a need for a new edition. Another reason for reissuing this book is out hope that its increased emphasis on the modern philosophy about embryological anomalies and variations of anatomical entities, as well as a few remarks about technique, will help surgeons avoid anatomical complications. The need for additional information about embryology was dictated by the reality that today in medical schools instruction in embryology (and unfortunately, also anatomy) is poor, or even non-existent. The enriched embryological content is reflected in the new title, Gray's & Skandalakis' Atlas of Surgical Anatomy and Embryology for General Surgeons.
